DescriptionJakub Lipavský’s art provides a way for him to express a certain feeling. His sculptures are often defined by external inconspicuousness and a certain serenity in their expressive power. The sculptural form contains a redefined sensory perception, and the landscape and environment play a crucial role in its origin. The process of art creation could be described as a process of transforming external reality into a form of art. Lipavský is interested in re-establishing the importance of the shape. The shapes themselves often seem lapidary and bereft of elementary form. His objects are made of wood on whose surface he places aluminum plates. He also creates objects from concrete and iron and thus connects the lasting with the temporary.

The surface is covered by plated aluminum and shows his interest in the effects of light. The matte surface dissipates the light, which gives the work a specific, spiritual dimension.

Jakub Lipavský (*1976, Prague) studied in the years 1998–2004 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the studio od Sculpture (Jindřich Zeithamml). He completed internships at the Kunstakademie in Stuttgart and the Prague Academy of Fine Arts in studio of Painting (Vladimír Skrepl). He is the author of various sculptural works in Veselí and Lužnicí and has received the Bogdan Najdenov prize. Since 2004, he held a number of solo exhibitions, for example in the Dům umění in České Budějovice (Na dno geometrie, 2008), or the Dům U Zlatého prstenu in Prague (Na hladině, 2009). He is represented at group exhibitions in Reinraum in Düsseldorf (Plastiche Arbeiten, 2002), the Galerie Felix Janewein in Kutná Hora (Socha 2, 2006), Wortner’s House in České Budějovice (Socha 3, 2007), in DOX in Prague (My Europe, EESC in Brussels, 2009), the Municipal Library of Prague (Fundamenty a sedimenty, 2011).
