DescriptionZbyněk Sedlecký is representative of the great generation of painters appearing on the scene at the break of the new millennium. Sedlecký thematises contemporary visual culture and the viewer’s perception of the work of art. He explores the relationship of place and time to nature, the possibilites and capacity of human memory, and its capability of to some extent reconstructing the past. He depicts anonymous figures shimmering in the city exterior whose loose contours thematise the image of today’s society built upon the quick transmission of data and information, as well as the oversaturation of the infosphere and the limited capacities of human memory.

One of Sedlecký‘s typical motifs is the depiction of watching or observing people. Evoking the aesthetics of a black and white photograph, the picture Pavilion depicts strolling people on a square in front of the austere pavilion building.

Zbyněk Sedlecký (*1976, Ostrava) gratuated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno with Prof. Jiří Načeradský and the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague with Prof. Jiří Sopko. In 2000 he took part in a study trip to the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart and in 2003 the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerp. He was inaugurated into the contemporary art scene through the Resetting project. Jiné cesty k věcnosti (2007–2008, Prague City Gallery) which was also one of the projects which indicated novel possible directions in painting. Sedlecký also took part in the long-term exhibition Po sametu (2009–2013) in the Prague City Gallery, and in 2010 he was invited to take part in the Liverpool Biennial (2010). In 2017 he had a solo exhibition in the Václav Špála gallery in Prague, and he holds the position of Assistant Professor at the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague.
